~ Blessed To Be On The Dry Side ~

 

 

In Louisiana, you learn to take

the weather report knowing

it could be as bad as they

say it will be..........or not.

 

 

 

We "prepare for the worst and

hope for the best" as the old saying goes.

 

Thankfully, Isaac was kind

to the northeast part of the state

where we live.

 

 

 

We had gusty wind at times

and a steady rain most of the day.

 

 

Our thoughts and prayers

go out to the folks on the Gulf

Coast and those battling flood

waters today.......

 

we know it could just as easily have been us.

~ HURRICANE ISAAC  ~

 

 

 

 

Just waiting to see what

impact he will have on

our part of Louisiana.

 

 

 

 

The name "Isaac"

means "laughter" in Hebrew.

We're not laughing.

~

But, we know God is

in control and all we have

belongs to Him.

I confess.....

I am a Jason Bourne fan.

 

I have seen the trilogy more times

than I can count and if

it were on the tv right now...

I would probably be watching.

 

All three movies were equally

entertaining to me. The plot was

skillfully continued and kept me

interested...right down to the smile
on Nicky Parson's face at the
 very end of the Bourne Ultimatum.

 

So I was looking forward to the

new release of the Bourne Legacy.

 

 

David & I went to see it this week.

We enjoyed it but found it

didn't have the same depth

as the previous three.

 

Have you seen it? If you are a fan,

what are your thoughts?

 

With that said, I will watch it again

when it is released from the theaters.

Maybe it will grow on me.

 

I think I just miss Matt Damon :(

~ Jefferson ~

As I promised in my last post, I am sharing

a little of our day in the lovely

old town of Jefferson, TX.

After our lunch in Uncertain,

 we spent the rest of the

afternoon browsing through the

many little antique

shops found here in Jefferson.

After a day of shopping, we always seen to

end up at this place,

the Jefferson General Store.

It is as old timey as they come,

complete with a soda

fountain inside where a coke float

or a strawberry malt

can be had on a hot summer day.

The handsome blue pickup is always

 parked in front.

There are benches for resting and

people watching.

 You can get a glimpse of the

 fun stuff inside through the window

 (excuse my reflection....

not too well planned :o)

The town is well taken care of and

many older buildings

have been beautifully restored.

 I just loved the colors

on this building as well as the architecture.

Such pretty art work on this building,

remembering the past when this was

a major port for this part of the south.

We had a lovely afternoon in spite of the

 100 degree heat.

I found a couple of vintage juice glasses and

David found a book so we both came home

with a little treasure to show for our day.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit Jefferson,

it is well worth your time. There are lovely

B and B's in many of the

beautiful old homes in town.

~ Dog Days ~

It's that time of year...you know...

it seems like it has been hot

 forever...

and you can't remember the last

time you heard it rain....and the

humidity....is it possible for it to

be more than 100 %?

Once again I understand the

 "dog days of summer" phrase.

 If I were a dog, I would

lay around on the porch, or in the

shade and nap

all . the . live . long . day.

One morning, David and I just weren't

in the mood to do chores, so we took

a little drive and wound up at

a place called Uncertain, Texas.

 How would you like to tell folks you

were from Uncertain? Could be a little

confusing, I'm thinkin'. 

It is just over the state line in Texas

and we went there looking

for a catfish resturant we had heard about.

We arrived just in time for lunch.

Even though it was a very warm day,

we opted to sit on the screened porch

overlooking the river bend.

The scenery was worth the outside seat!

Spanish moss framed the boaters

as they cruised around the bend.

Such a peaceful place to

enjoy fried catfish, hushpuppies,

cole slaw and sweet tea.

(did I mention peach cobbler?) 

I am sure there is a logical reason

for the name Uncertain.

Maybe with this much beauty,

they just couldn't decide which

lovely name to call their little

community.

We traveled on to the little town of

Jefferson, Tx. for an afternoon of

browsing the antique shops.

I will share more about that next time.

For now, I am staying cool and

enjoying these "dog days". They will

be gone soon enough and the next

season will be upon us.

That seems to be happening way to fast

these days.

Still no rain for us so the yard is looking

I am already looking forward to cooler

weather and taking a little trip to the

mountains. But that will be a while...

So ... I am enjoying previous journeys.

Enjoying Summer

Just spending my days enjoying the sweet

smell of fresh mown hay.......

loving fields of wildflowers.........

having lunch alfresco with my hubbie

 at a local arts and crafts fair....

that's my summer so far....

I will be back when I have more intresting

 things to share.

May your skies be blue and your days

 long and lazy.

just the happiest blooms.

They're pretty, before.......

and after.

     We had a lovely day Saturday, visiting     

     the villages of Belcher & Gilliam

     enjoying the Sunflower festival.

     We visited the craft booths,

visited with friends we ran into,

and of course,

      visited the the Main Street Cafe for lunch...

yum. 

     It was a day that brought a smile

to my face as bright as a sunflower!

~ Flags are Blooming ~

Once again, one of my favorite summertime

 flowers is blooming. They always make

me a little sentimental, reminding me

of my mama and growing up in the country.

This takes me back to a little girl, playing on

the porch on a warm afternoon

and seeing mama's flowers blooming

along the fence.

 We called these day lilies "flags",

I guess because they seemed to wave to

us in the summertime breeze.

They're a cheerful reminder of a

time when life moved slowly and

the smallest of pleasures brought joy.

I feel like summer has arrived!

 (even though it's not official yet.)

Berry Pickin’

I am drinking my coffee this morning

 and David said "wanna go see if the

blackberries are ripe"?

Not that I don't have a million

things around the house that need my

attention.....but my reply

"sure".

Berry pickin' was an annual event

when I was a child and I always

loved it, red bugs and all..

However, I am really not a fan of snakes,

so sweet hubby came prepared to shoot

any that might attack me and I came

prepared to shoot him pickin' those few berries

that were ripe!

While he picked, I enjoyed the morning.

We passed this old deer stand that belonged to

one of the older gentlemen who used to

hunt here. He is now with the Lord, but
I know he enjoyed many hours in this

mini tree house.

I saw lots of deer tracks, so this was a

great place to hunt.

Pretty wildflowers popped up

along the way. It was high noon

when I was snapping these pics

so there is a little too much light.

(Sigh) Still trying to master the

art of photography.

We crossed beautiful Lake

Bistineau on the way home. This is

one of the prettiest lakes in North Louisiana.

Lots of Cypress trees dripping with moss.

A little rural Americana...this old abandoned

building is used to advertise just about

everything from Fish and Fixins to

Heavenly Acres Cemetery for pets.

I think the signs are mostly what is holding it

together:))

On a corner, we passed this old log building.

It appears to have been a barn at one time.

Look at the old shutters on the window...

maybe it started out as a house???

I just love these old structures. They have

real character and a story to tell.

Wish we could hear it.

Well, I guess this pretty iron door was

put on to secure the inside of this

building...it's ironic that the building

is pretty much history and we could probably

 just walk through any wall, but this door

remains locked tight.

Well, the blackberries need another week

to ripen, but we (we meaning David) managed

to pick enough for a pie.

 I think that will be baked on Monday in honor

of all the men and women who gave

the ultimate sacrifice so I could spend

a day with my husband, picking berries and

roaming the countryside freely.
